DodgeArrows Annapolis Experience Recap

The Summer season is upon us! This calls for poolside BBQ, spontaneous beach trips, all you can eat ice cream, and let’s not forget the SPF 50. With attractions like Sandy Point Park, Annapolis Waterfront, and Quiet Waters, Anne Arundel offers a plethora of ways to enjoy Maryland’s outdoor beauty. That being said, the Summer heat can be suffocating and I think we all need a break from the sweltering sun. Can you believe this July went down as the hottest month on record? Sometimes you need a break from the outside world and need an indoor group activity

So, I’ve been desperately searching for new ideas of indoor group fun in Anne Arundel while recovering from the sunburn and heat exhaustion. Luckily, my commute down Veterans Highway put my search to rest. On the side of the road a sign caught my eye- seemingly providing the answer to all my needs.

DodgeArrows Annapolis: Come shoot Arrows at your Friends!

You may be a little confused as to what DodgeArrows is- just as I was. Well, it is just a fun indoor group activity for one thing. Upon further investigation, DodgeArrows Annapolis offers a unique form of gameplay comparable to “archery-style dodgeball.” Intrigued, I rallied up a group of friends and booked a reservation. My expectations were limited, having never played dodgeball before or even hearing of the bow-and-arrow rendition of the sport. All I know is that when there’s a game, I’m gonna win.

The Experience

Inside, arrows lining the floor directed us to the turf arena. The cool, clean air refreshed us from the heat bearing down outside and eased my worries of being sweat-soaked by the end of the hour.  The facility is properly air-conditioned and accommodated with plenty of bathroom stalls for all players as well as cubbies to store any personal items while you play.  Cold water, too, is available at any time for players to rehydrate.

At this point, I am eager to finally exercise my muscles after exam season- giving my hands a break from essay-writing and equation-solving and instead putting my legs to work. First and foremost, though, comes safety. We slip on the protective goggles await instruction. Louben, the owner, rials us up even more with his infectious energy and passion for adrenaline. He gives us a rundown of the game, its rules, and demonstrates proper shooting technique. My friends and I line up for a couple rounds of shooting practice, and once Louben is certain we’re comfortable and got the hang of it, our training is complete. The game is on.

Our group separates into two teams on both ends of the field. In the center lies a row of arrows. At Louben’s call, the field explodes with energy as we speed forward to claim our weapons. On the turf, I set free all the stress and anxiety of the school year in an epic end-of-school year battle.

Over our 50 minute reservation, we were able to fit in four rounds of play. Louben introduced different game modes each round to keep the excitement pumping. We began with normal gameplay, followed by capture the flag, team elimination, and of course, my favorite: free for all >:). The perfect beginning to a Summer of fun, nothing has topped it since! It’s the perfect indoor activity for everyone!

What You Should Know

Dress to Win

There is no dress code, but be sure to wear comfortable closed-toed shoes. Like in any sport, it is best to dress in clothing that allows for ease of movement. Shorts are welcome, but I would recommend wearing long pants as you will likely be kneeling on the turf a lot. Additionally, contact lenses are ideal for players with glasses as players will be provided with goggles for protection.

All are welcome!

DodgeArrows brings out the inner child in anyone! You shouldn’t feel deterred from playing due to a lack of experience, athletic capability, or older age. Intensity level is all under your control in how much competitive spirit and energy you put towards play. Bring out Grandpa and Grandma to the next family function AND let the kids channel sibling rivalries into a healthy battle on the turf.

Clearly, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at DodgeARROWS Annapolis and I would recommend anyone in the greater Maryland region to check it out. It’s worth the drive out for such a novel experience.

That’s it! Now you’re ready to shoot arrows at your friends, family, or coworkers. What better way to have some indoor group fun than shooting arrows at people? Don’t sacrifice your time this Summer escaping the heat by sitting at home; embark on your epic adventure at DodgeArrows Annapolis! 🙂
